- The sample, dried in a forced-air oven at 40°C, was quartered, and a representative aliquot was sieved to 2 mm, with both the passing and retained (skeleton) fractions weighed. The portion below 2 mm was ground using a planetary mill with agate jars, specifically the "Pulverisette 6" by Fritsch, and reduced to a particle size of less than 100 μm. The sample for mercury analysis was dried at room temperature, under a fume hood.
